New South Wales SkiingSkiing in New South Wales (NSW), will introduce you the historic Snowy Mountains region of Australia. In New South Wales are three of the best skiing resorts in the world and one of the few places you can ski in the southern hemisphere where there are world standard facilities including accommodation, ski lifts, lessons, ski hire and great skiing conditions. The Australian Ski season runs from late June through until September and sometimes October depending on depth of winter snowfalls. All the resorts in this region have modern snow making equipment so you can always ski here during the winter no matter what the natural snow conditions are like. Thredbo is the most up market of these resorts and has the longest runs and the highest verticle drop. It is also the furthest into the mountains and has the most reliable snowfalls in the region. Perisher Valley is the largest ski field in Australia and is made up fom a combination of several smaller resorts that include Perisher Blue, Smiggin Holes,Blue Cow and Charlottes Pass.Mt Selwyn is the third and it is also the smallest. It is popular with learners and many school groups come here on learn to ski packages. There is on snow accommodation in each of these resorts or you can stay at the foot of the mountains in Jindabyne and commute via the underground ski tube to the slopes each day. if you do this you can choose to ski at a different place each day. The New South Wales ski resorts can be accessed by road from Canberra and Sydney. Snow bus services travel this route each day or you can fly to Cooma and then commute to Jindabyne by bus. You can also take your own car or a hired vehicle and snow chains must be carried./p> Skiing in Australia is a wonderful experience and the mountains here are different to what Europeans and Americans are used to. The mountain ranges are only about 7000 feet in altitude and the Alpine regions are very delicate eco systems. The trees you see here are not the pine variety's you see in other countries. Australian ski slopes are lined by the beautiful and unique snow gums which only grow in alpine regions. If you are looking for a fantastic skiing experience in Australia, come skiing in New South wales. |
