Airlie Beach

Airlie Beach in the Whitsundays region of Queensland is the centre of one of Australia’s premier tourist regions. Airlie Beach is situated on the mainland and is the major jumping off point for the Whitsunday island resorts in the nearby Whitsunday Passage. The commercial centre of Airlie Beach is situated right on the beach front and has a beautiful resort village type of atmosphere. There is almost always a myriad yachts and charter boats out on the water creating a wonderful holiday panorama. Airlie beach is a cruising yachtsman’s paradise with the islands and beaches of the Whitsunday Passage lying just offshore. Here you can holiday on a crewed charter boat for a day or a week or you can charter a bare boat from the marina for as long as you like and spend an unforgettable holiday lazing your way around the bays, inlets and beaches of this picturesque island paradise. Whitsunday sailing is an unforgettable experience. The local Island Resorts which give the region its fame cater to every budget and are within easy reach of Airlie Beach. There are regular ferry services from Airlie Beach and Shute harbour to help you get there.

The Great Barrier Reef lies just offshore and you can visit it on one of the daily trips operated by Fantasea Cruises. They operate the Reef World platform which is anchored right on the reef and from here you can dive or snorkel to your hearts content in complete safety. You can also stay overnight on the Reef World Platform and use the underwater observatory under the moonlight. Airlie Beach is one of those places that every backpacker travelling to Australia must visit. The area caters for this market with many quality hostels and yachting trips that are set up to cater to this market. The night life is legendary and Airlie is known as party central.
