- Fishing There’s great fishing spots along Cable Beach and Roebuck Bay, the Deep Water Jetty in the Port of Broome or join a fishing boat charter.
- Get out of Broome and head for the Kimberley Coast or join a 4WD safari tour or camping adventure into the rugged Kimberley Gorges and Dampier Peninsula.
- The Broome Bird Observatory is regarded as one of the best spots in Australia to view some of the 310 species of migratory wader birds that arrive each year from the breeding grounds in Siberia. Crab Creek Road, RoebuckBay (approximately 25kms from Broome).
- Cruise the bay on a Pearl Lugger and learn about Broome’s pearl diving history.
- Explore Chinatown. Once the bustling hub of pearl dealers, Chinatown today is testimony to Broome’s multicultural past and present. The unique character of Broome’s distinctive iron buildings, some dating back to the 1880’s, nowadays house pearl showrooms, galleries, retail outlets and sidewalk cafés.
- See the 130 million year-old Dinosaur Footprints at Gantheaume Point (note: the foot prints can only be seen at very low tides, so check tide times beforehand).
- Also at Gantheaume Point is Anastasia’s Pool. Built by a former lighthouse keeper for his wife, Anastasia, who found relief from crippling arthritis in this almost perfectly round pool.
- See the Dutch Flying Boat wrecks which remain as evidence of the flying boats sunk by the Japanese air raid on Broome during WWII in March 1942 (visible at low tide).
- See the Cultured Pearl and Hard Hat Diver monuments in Carnavon Street which pay tribute to Broome’s place in the world pearling industry in the early 1900’s.
- Visit the Old Courthouse (built in 1888) Corner of Frederick and Hamerlsy Streets, Broome.
- Manbana Aquaculture and Discovery Centre offers the opportunity to learn about the aboriginal culture of the traditional Yawuru people and their relationship with the unique river and ocean life of the Broome and Kimberly regions. The centre also includes a working aquaculture hatchery with hands-on aquarium displays and deadly sea creatures. Join in the barramundi feeing on one of the Centre’s one or three hour educational tours. Murakami Road, Port of Broome.
- The Broome Museum is one of the best regional museums in Australia, featuring displays of the town’s unique pearling history. Lot 271 Saville Street, Broome.
- The Australian and Allied War Memorials, Bedford Park on Hamersley Street, Broome.
- Sun Pictures Outdoor Cinema See new release movies under the stars at the world’s oldest operating outdoor picture gardens. Open nightly. Located in the heart of Chinatown, Carnavon Street.
- The Courthouse Markets are a great place to shop for local produce, arts, crafts, pottery, jewellery and mementos. There’s also a great range of Asian food stalls. Held every Saturday & Sunday morning between 7am and 12noon in the grounds of the Old Courthouse, Corner of Frederick and Hamerlsy Streets, Broome.
- Chinatown is a great place to shop and soak up the Asian influences of Broome’s unique culture. There are pearl showrooms, galleries, retail outlets and sidewalk cafés selling great Asian cuisine.
- Staircase to the Moon (March-October) a breathtaking natural phenomenon caused by the rising of a full moon reflecting off the exposed mudflats in Roebuck Bay creating an optical illusion of a stairs reaching to the moon. (Note: only visible at very low tide and on three nights per month between March and October).
- The Broome Cup (August) Broome’s famous horse race attracts punters from far and wide to one of the most unique race clubs in Australia.
- Shinju Matsuri (August/ September) Broome's Festival of the Pearl celebrates the multicultural heritage and culture of the town with 10 days of traditional and contemporary arts, industry and community events including dragon boat races, food festivals, art competitions and more.
