Caloundra is the southernmost resort town on the Sunshine Coast. It is a coastal city that is located right at the northern end of Moreton Bay and Bribie Island. Because of this location Caloundra has a wide variety of coastal features. To the east there are ocean beaches and excellent surf, especially when the swell is from the east. On its southern boundary the coast is protected by Bribie Island and consequently there is a calm water passage which is on the northern end of Pumicestone passage. This region is a family boating paradise with excellent fishing and boating conditions coupled with calm water beaches and waterfront accommodation. Golden Beach is located here and there is a variety of apartment style holiday resorts to choose from that are right on the beachfront. This really is one of the best family holiday destinations on the Sunshine Coast.

Caloundra is extremely easy to access. It is around one hours drive from Brisbane along a modern motorway. Brisbane has an international airport and shuttle services operate to regular schedules to get you to the Sunshine Coast. There is also a domestic airport at Coolum with regular flights from all the southern capitals. Caloundra has excellent infrastructure for tourists. There are several shopping centers as well as a multitude of excellent restaurants and cafés. The late Steve Irwin’s Australia Zoo is located close by and they run a regular shuttle service that will pick up and drop off from the door at your chosen Caloundra accommodation. Australia Zoo is one of the regions best tourist attractions and should not be missed. Underwater world is located not far away at Mooloolaba and this is also a world class display. The Sunshine Coast hinterland has lots of attractions that are within easy reach. Visit the Glass House mountains and the Malany region. Both offer incredible scenery and many other attractions that you will want to experience.
