A holiday in New Zealand (NZ) will be remembered for the rest of your life for a million reasons. This is one of the most scenically beautiful countries in the world complimented by modern cities and up to date tourist infrastructure. There are so many places to see, so many activities to engage in and so many ways to see and do them. The two main islands are very different in their attractions.
The North Island is the home of one of the world’s most geothermally active areas. Rotorua and Taupo both sit above a wide region of geothermal activity with pools of boiling mud, geysers and volcanic lakes. Much of the North islands electricity is generated using this heat. In the north lies the magnificent Bay of Islands and Waitangi which is the birthplace of modern New Zealand. The west coast is famous for its giant kauri trees. Here you can view Tane Mahuta, the second largest tree in the world and visit the kauri museum to find out the history of the Kauri industry. The east coast is beautiful. The Bay of Plenty and Hawkes Bay are not to be missed. The Marlboro region with its emerging wine growing industry is superb. The central mountain range provides the opportunity to ski on great slopes on the active volcano, Mt Ruapehu and the capital city of Wellington lies in the south.
The South Island is the adventure capital of the world. Queenstown has a reputation as a city where almost anything is possible. It is the center of the islands skiing industry with resorts at Coronet Peak, The Remarkables, Cardrona and Treble Cone having an international reputation for their quality. Other adventure activities in the region include bungy jumping and jet boat rides. Christchurch on the east coast is the largest city and international entry point. Mt Hutt is nearby and it also provides excellent skiing. On the West coast the scenery is majestic with Fiordland, Milford Sound and Doubtfull Sound both providing awe inspiring landscapes. The Fox and Franz Joseph Glaciers located a little further north are also magnificent.
New Zealand is a great place for motor touring. There is a huge campervan and motorhome rental industry in the country and plenty of local infrastructure to support it. All in all, New Zealand is a fantastic place for your next NZ holidays.
