Queenstown, New Zealand is known as the adventure capital of the world. Located on the south island of NZ in one of the worlds most picturesque valleys you will find the holiday centre of a life time. Queenstown itself lies on the shores of Lake Wakatipu and is surrounded by snow capped mountains and ski fields. Through the valleys flow a number of rivers and mountain streams. These rivers flow through awesome canyons and here you can experience the thrill of a jet boat ride through what would otherwise be impenetrable terrain. Spectacular bridges span these chasms and the most adventurous thrill seekers can bungy jump into the chasm below. The keen fisherman and skier is very well catered for with fishing charters targeting trout and salmon available on the lake and numerous skiing resorts located close to Queenstown.
Queenstown skiing and Queenstown snowboarding ranks with the best in the world. The ski fields are at latitude 43 degrees south and in winter this ensures excellent snow conditions. There are several ski resorts within easy reach. Coronet Peak is the nearest to town and has a sealed road right to the car park and chair lift. There is plenty of lifts available and snow making equipment will provide an excellent cover early in the season if the snows are late. The Remarkables ski resort is located across the valley and is about a half hours drive from town. This area also has snow making equipment and plenty of lift capacity. Both resorts cater for all levels of expertise and are popular with skiers and snowboarders alike.
Cardrona is a little further from Queenstown ( about 50 minutes drive) but the scenery is worth the effort. Snow conditions here are excellent and once again there are slopes and lifts for everyone. A little closer to Wanaka is the ski resort of Treble Cone. This resort is highly recommended and is often used by the USA Olympic team for training during the northern off season. When holidaying in this region don’t forget to get out into the spectacular hinterland or take a steamship ride on the lake. Real Journeys conduct regular trips and tours throughout the region. A trip to Milford sound is an absolute must as you will travel through many of the middle earth locations from the Lord Of the Rings Trilogy on you way and Milford Sound itself is absolutely spectacular.
Queenstown snow accommodation is available to suit every budget and our office will be only too happy to advise and assist. Queenstown is extremely easy to access. There are regular daily flights from Australia. During the ski season there are also direct flights straight to Queenstown. International flights arrive from the Pacific and the US and regular domestic services are also available. New Zealand is a wonderful place for a campervan or motorhome holiday. Apollo campers and Kea campers both have a number of depots throughout the country to make it easy to pick up and deliver vehicles and the country is dotted with caravan parks and camping areas.
