Southport is located at the northern end of the Gold Coast. It is the Commercial centre for this fabulous tourist region but that does not detract from the fact that Southport has many attractions in its own right. There is fantastic accommodation, some of it rivalling the best in the world! Southport lies on the Broadwater which is a strip of water that separates it from the ocean beach. The Southport Spit runs northward along the ocean beach as far as the seaway which is the entrance to the inland waterways from the ocean. The Southport Broadwater and seaway is always a very busy waterway with many charter boats and private leisure craft always busily plying its channels. The ocean beach is one of the best surfing beaches in the region and the seawalls of the seaway create an excellent wave that the local surfing fraternity find irresistible.

The Southport commercial centre lies on the western side of the Broadwater. Here you will find excellent shopping facilities, banks, restaurants and cafés. On the Southport spit itself are a number of luxury resorts which include The Marina Mirage resort and the Palazzo Versace resort. There are also a number of marinas from which a range of aquatic tours and activities are available. Some of the most exclusive shopping on the Gold Coast is also found here. Fisherman’s Wharf, which is the home of the local fishing trawler fleet is also located here and you can buy fresh prawns right from the back of the boat.

One of the Gold Coast’s best family theme park destinations is also located here. SeaWorld is known the world over for its marine exhibits, its adventure rides and its water park which is a great place to take the kids on a hot day. There are also a range of holiday resorts and apartments along the western shores of the Broadwater. This is a great location as most have a calm water frontage that is ideal for families and children to splash and swim in safety. Nearby theme parks will pick up and deliver to the door of your selected holiday home or resort so let the kids enjoy Dreamworld and Movieworld as well as Wet N Wild Waterpark. You will need a day at each so make sure you come with a loaded wallet.

You can fly in to the domestic airport at Coolangattaand then use the shuttle service or you can fly into the international airport in Brisbane and once again there are many choices available to get to Southport.
