Combine reef snorkelling with a 40-minute aerial tour of the Great Barrier Reef in a single half-day outing from Cairns. You'll either snorkel first then fly, or reverse the order, visiting Upolu Reef or Breaking Patches with small groups (27 on the boat, 8 per aircraft). What to expect

You'll spend roughly three hours in and around the water, then 40 minutes airborne. The boat ride to the reef takes time; expect moderate sea conditions. Once at the site, you enter the water in groups for guided snorkelling—visibility varies with tide and weather. Back on shore, you'll head to the aviation terminal for your scenic flight. The aircraft is small and windows are tight, so positioning matters for photos. The whole day involves brief waits between activities. Fitness matters: you need reasonable cardiovascular health and swimming ability.

Good to know

Minimum age is 6; maximum passenger weight 115kg. Not suitable if pregnant, over 65, or with spinal injuries. Public transport reaches the aviation terminal; hotel pickups aren't included. Wetsuits and prescription masks hire separately. The $10 fuel surcharge goes direct to Daintree Aviation, not the tour operator.
