A nine-hour loop from Port Douglas that chains together two of Far North Queensland's standout rides. Small groups (20 max) board the historic Kuranda Scenic Railway, descending through rainforest canopy, then spend two hours wandering Kuranda's markets and art galleries before ascending via the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway, a gondola system strung across the treetops. You'll finish with downtime in Palm Cove before heading back to base.

What to expect

You'll be collected from your accommodation in the morning and driven to the railway station. The Scenic Railway climbs slowly through dense rainforest—expect 1.5 hours of windows framing tree ferns, vines, and gorges. Once in Kuranda, your guide releases you into the village for self-guided wandering: the markets sell local crafts and produce, galleries feature regional artists. After two hours you're picked up and transferred to the Skyrail station. The cableway ride spans roughly 7.5 kilometres, with two optional ground stations where you can stop for closer looks at the forest floor and canopy layer. On descent, you'll pause in Palm Cove for a swim or drink before the drive back.

Good to know

The Scenic Railway doesn't run reliably during the wet season (November–April). Skyrail closes mid-July to mid-August for maintenance. Bring comfortable shoes for Kuranda's uneven market lanes. Meals and optional wildlife-park entries aren't included. The cableway moves constantly—mild vertigo sufferers should test a short section first.
