About this tour

This 10-hour helicopter expedition departs Broome and sweeps across the Kimberley's remote northern reaches, landing at Mitchell Plateau to explore the tiered falls via scenic flight. You'll swim beneath cascading water, traverse ancient palm forests, and return via a coastal route that reveals Montgomery Reef, Horizontal Waterfalls, and the Buccaneer Archipelago. Lunch and refreshments included.

Highlights

  • Helicopter landing at Mitchell Plateau's ancient Livistona Palm forest
  • Swimming hole beneath multi-tiered Mitchell Falls
  • Scenic chopper flight over Mertens Gorge and coastal inlets
  • Montgomery Reef and Horizontal Waterfalls viewed from above
  • Buccaneer Archipelago and Cape Leveque coastal flyover

What to expect

After collecting you from Broome, the helicopter climbs north over King Sound and Walcott Inlet, landing at Mitchell Plateau where you'll be driven through sprawling palm woodland to Mertens campground. From here, another flight deposits you at the falls themselves for a few hours of exploration and swimming. The return leg is the showstopper: you'll trace the coastline past reef systems and tidal phenomena, approaching Broome from the west over the Dampier Peninsula's bays and beaches.
