What to expect
Expect a physically demanding day. You'll be fitted with helmet, lifejacket and paddle, then spend intense stretches pushing through fast water, steep drops and powerful currents. The guides brief you on technique and safety before you launch; they'll call commands throughout the rapids. Between major sections, you'll have moments to catch breath and take in the gorge. The final stretch is calmer, letting your heart rate settle. Afterwards, head to a local pub for a hot meal where everyone rehashes the day's scariest moments.
Good to know
You must swim confidently and understand English instructions—guides assess this at pickup. Minimum age is 13 (under-18s need a parent's signed waiver). Bring strong fitness; poor cardiovascular health, spinal injuries, or pregnancy rule you out. River levy of $35 is due on the day. Shoe hire and photo packages cost extra.
